Along with Dan’s amazing SNL appearance, he kicked off the show with a powerful monologue:

“Somewhere, my 13-year-old self has fainted in like a really needy, melodramatic way.  The past 12 months have quite literally changed [his] life in so many ways, but said there were ups and downs to his life in the limelight.  People finally started watching our show Schitt’s Creek and [we] were fortunate enough to win nine Emmys this year. Beyond a dream come true.  The good: I have been getting stopped on the street by all different kinds of people, which is new and fun and different.  The not so good: those people are mainly screaming ‘Ew!’ at me, which was a line I wrote for the show that will now haunt me for the rest of my life.  But in all seriousness, for all the good and the not so good, I have somehow found myself here on this iconic stage standing in front of all of you. And trust me when I say this, it has only been good here at SNL.”

During his monologue, Dan was interrupted by his father, Eugene Levy.

Hours before Dan hit the SNL stage, his mother, Deborah Divine, shared a heartfelt message on her Twitter page, dedicated to her son, “This goes out to the bully punks at Camp WTF who made life miserable for a certain cabin-mate back in the the summer of ’96 – just because he was different. Well, after all these years I have just 7 words to say to you: “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”” Dan responded with, “This.  Love you, mom.”

Just days before Levy’s SNL debut, Divine proudly celebrated her son and husband Eugene Levy after Schitt’s Creek earned five Golden Globe Award nominations. “My parents are dancing somewhere this morning,” she wrote on Twitter.

Back in April, Divine went viral on Twitter for her sweet message to her son Dan to commemorate the air date of the Schitt’s Creek series finale.

“Today I regret every single second of worry back in the uninformed 80’s-wondering how the world was going to treat my brilliant little boy who loved to twirl. Little did I know that he was going to kick that old world’s ass to the curb and create a brand new one. @danjlevy,” she wrote.

It’s been an impressive start to the year for the Toronto-born star, after Schitt’s Creek was also nominated for multiple Golden Globe awards and SAG awards this month.
