This year’s Cannes Film Festival saw a surge in buzz for three female-led films starring Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, and Mikey Madison, a lesser-known actor who played a secondary antagonist in the fifth “Scream” film. The films that made a big splash at Cannes include an uncategorizable crowd-pleaser, Emilia Pérez, the outrageous Demi Moore comeback: ‘The Substance,’ and the gritty indie ‘Pretty Woman’: ‘Anora’ For years, there was a sentiment that female-led films weren’t box office hits; however, Barbie smashed that narrative.
