Helllloo my crab cakes! That’s what I’m making for dinner, and I hope they’ll be as lovely as you. And you are lovely, no matter how hairy or bumpy or pudgy or messy you think you are. Yes, home hair colouring products are the new hoarding material. Lori stocked up, but Kathy reports that Olio hair colour (which has no ammonia) is sold out on Amazon. Siegi is another DIY woman: she’s great with the waxing and the tinting, but can’t trim her bangs to save her life. Let’s hope she’s never in a life-threatening situation that requires it. Anne did the math and figures I’m saving about $600 a month in beauty costs. Sounds about right. Wow. And Maggie says without her personal care lady she looks like a pet chicken she had as a child. She sent along a picture – of herself, not the chicken, although that chicken must have been beautiful.

Let’s see, what else … Donna is quilting! Margaret is sleeping in. Kelly wandered the streets of Streetsville while getting her tires changed. Darlene has fond memories of her first car – a used 1972 GMC half ton that is probably still on the road somewhere. Cori is sad that she and her husband are missing a trip to Jamaica for their 13th anniversary. Jodi, Janet, Mary and Sandra are just checking in and sending love.  And Diane is making quite beautiful masks from fabric she has on hand. She sent me one, and I love it, insofar as one can love a mask. She charges $5, and that includes postage, and you can email her here.

Everyone seems to be doing fine, as we head into our 8th week of isolation and social distancing. I know I am. John turned to me the other night and said “You are actually in your element, aren’t you?”, and he’s not wrong. On the introvert-extrovert scale, I slide to the left. This might sound strange for someone who makes a living talking on the radio,  and who loves to perform, and to entertain, but it isn’t really. When I’m not doing all those things, I prefer my own company. I don’t like large parties (even my own), I have just a few close friends, I tend to be introspective, and my idea of a great evening is reading a book by the fire, as long as the book is good and the fire is contained. As such, there really isn’t a lot I am missing these days. Yes, travel and restaurants and shopping and such, not to mention physical contact with the ones I love, but everything and everyone I really need is under my roof, so I can’t complain. (Aidan and Jamie are of course the exception, but we keep in close touch.) So yes, while I look forward to this time being over, or, realistically speaking, being less restrictive, I’m okay with hunkering. I’m a natural hunkerer.

And it’s May! We can sit outside! Go for bike rides! Barbecue! Use too many exclamation marks!!!! Maybe we can’t go to High Park to see the cherry blossoms, but, introvert that I am, I have my own cherry tree, and it’s ready to pop. I’ll post some pictures. Until then, have the best weekend you can have. Now, about those crab cakes…
