John Madden, an NFL coaching and broadcasting legend has passed away at the age of 85.  He passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (Dec. 28) morning.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, “Nobody loved football more than Coach.  He was football. He was an incredible sounding board to me and so many others.  There will never be another John Madden, and we will forever be indebted to him for all he did to make football and the NFL what it is today.”

John, who’s also the namesake of the ‘Madden’ video game franchise, dominated as a head coach of the Oakland Raiders, he won Super Bowl XI, finished with a 103-32-7 career record, and was eventually inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement, “I am not aware of anyone who has made a more meaningful impact on the National Football League than John Madden.  And I know of no one who loved the game more.”

John eventually became one of the greatest commentators, and was known as his popular terms like ‘Boom!’ and ‘Turducken.’
