Salads can be super nutritious and an easy way to get more greens and vegetables into your diet.   Salad jars are fun to eat and as easy as SHAKE & EAT!  There are many different salad combinations you can try, just takes a bit of prep with cutting up your ingredients but will leave you with a nutritious lunch or snack – perfect on the go.

These store SO well, just make sure they are in an air-tight jar and the lid is secure.  They will store in the fridge for up to 5 days. This could vary depending on the ingredients you put into your jar.    When you are ready to eat them, just give the jar a shake to ensure the dressing covers your ingredients.

How to prepare your salad jar layers:

  1. Place your dressing in the bottom of the jar. This could be homemade or store bought.
  2. Add your greens! You can use lettuce, spinach, cabbage or kale (a great source of iron!).
  3. Don’t forget the veggies – this will add substance and nutrients to your salad.   You can change up the veggies to compliment the kind of salad you want.  For EXTRA flavour, add in roasted vegetables like sweet potatoes, bell peppers, brussels sprouts, or butternut squash.
  4. Protein – you can add chickpeas, chicken, ham, tuna or cooked tofu! You could also add sliced hard boiled egg.
  5. Go for the Grains! Adding grains such as rice, quinoa, barley, couscous, or cooked pasta is great way to bulk up your salad making it more filling.
  6. Say CHEESE! Depending on your salad combo, you could add shredded cheddar or feta.

Pro-tip: be sure not to fill your jar right to the top.  You want to ensure when you shake your jar the dressing is able to coat all of your ingredients.
